I was around 15-years old when this happened, (1980).

I retired to bed one summer evening, and soon decided that I didn't want to sleep in my room, but instead in the family room where there was a nice breeze coming from an open window. I laid on the sofa directly under that window. One of our family pets, a pit bull terrier, named Sean, always slept with me. He followed and curled up at my feet on the sofa. I fell asleep.

The 1st time I woke up, Sean had moved - he was nudged under my arm, into my side so tightly that I was forced to turn and sleep on my side to be comfortable.

Sean woke me again a 2nd time - he was shaking. His head was up, and he was listening intently to something, (I heard nothing, of course). This behavior was common with him, and didn't alarm me because like other dogs of his type, his extremely protective nature caused him react to EVERYTHING. I petted him and spoke reassuringly to him, and the hairs that were up on the back of his neck laid down again. Just as quickly, I seemed to drift back to sleep.

The 3rd time was "rude awakening", so to speak. Sean was barking and growling, while using my body as a spring-board, he was frantically trying to push/scratch the screen out of the window to get at something.

This time, I was actually mad at him, but I still felt no reason to be alarmed.

I pushed him off of me so I could sit up. I remember trying to hold on to him and get him away from the window, and saying a few quick things, including, "What the hell is wrong with you? Get down! Knock it off!". Somewhat as a means of humoring him, and now curious myself, I decided to look out window.

I saw a face. It's only a blurry image that I can describe, as if seeing a couple of frames from a slow-motion, streaking (or trailing) effect. It was large, or maybe very close to me. I recall blurred colors, almost hueless greens and dirty copper. Rounded highlights and shadows seemed cast across it, from the front porch light that was very nearby. The one clear part of the image is that of eyes - large, round, opened wide, and animal/human like, except VERY LARGE and frightening. This is all that stuck in my memory from seeing this face for what had to have been less than a second.

What seemed to be several hours later, it wasn't Sean waking me up, it was my Mom and Stepdad.

It took me a while to actually wake up enough to be coherent. Mom's asking me to explained why I screamed. I told her I didn't scream (I don't remember screaming), and that it was Sean making all the racket... I showed her the scratches on the screen. She said he did that the other day when the postman came by. Both she and my stepdad insist that they did NOT hear Sean carrying on, and I was screaming at the top of my lungs just moments before they came running into the room, and when they got there I was fast asleep - and there was Sean, asleep right now next to me. I didn't tell them about the "face" I saw, because we were all convinced that I must've just had a nightmare. I found it very strange however, that Sean didn't wake the whole house up, because that much was definitely not a dream - he gave me several scratches on my legs and stomach before I could get his back legs off of me.

-------------------------- Bear with me as I discuss the possible explanations, in most to least likely order:

#1 A nightmare that I could not remember.
It's most likely that when I woke up the third time, to Sean's aggressive actions, that I was only half-awake, and slipped back into a dream state and began the nightmare, imagining someone or something frightening, maybe even screamed at this point, and fell fast back to sleep, and it only SEEMED like hours passed before my Mom was trying to wake me. It's probably just coincidence that they didn't hear Sean - or maybe he actually did wake them, they just only REMEMBER hearing me scream.
Question (a) Why didn't our other dog, Girl, react herself to whatever Sean was hearing/seeing that was upsetting him, or at least come to investigate? =Maybe she did and I just didn't see her.
Question (b) Why was Sean so calmly at my side when Mom & Greg arrived in the room, if in fact I had just been screaming at the top of my lungs? =Maybe it did upset him, but he calmed by the time Mom woke me up.

#2 A prank.
One of the neighborhood kids put on a creepy mask and decided to try and scare someone (and of course Sean knows there's someone lurking around). They make it up to the window, and I just happen to look out, scream and faint. If so, a very stupid kid or very brave... I think everyone within a 2-mile radius knew we had a dangerous dog, and knew his reputation for attack.

#3 An alien sighting.

#4 An alien encounter/abduction. As I only IMAGINE it... and really far-fetched. Everyone in the house was somehow "sedated", including the dogs. The alien(s) visited me. We communicated in some manner, but, nothing I recall, except that of imagined conversation between myself, and who appeared to be my mom and my stepdad.
----------------------------------

A few years ago, I asked my mother if she remembered this incident, and she does not.

I'm a very rational, practical person, and I would tend to believe that this was not an alien encounter, but, I'd like to find out if others have had similar experiences, in particular where their pets and/or other family members were involved.

I can also email a drawing of what I remember about the face I saw, in case anyone's interested.

Note: I saw mention of "reptile-like" aliens somewhere just today as I was searching for a place to read stories (still haven't found any!). If I had some kind of encounter, I would say that would be the one. Can you tell me of a web site where stories are posted? Debdoozie
